Same HARDWIRE. A different way to wear it.
Everyone listens differently. To accommodate that, SANWEAR-HARDWIRE is getting a new cable option: BattleFlex.
There are three big differences between our woven cable and BattleFlex cable:
BattleFlexCable length: 14cm longer than the original woven cable.
BattleFlex Cable material: More flexible ballistic nylon with a PVC outer jacket.
Reduced microphonics: Less cable noise when it rubs against your clothes, desk, or other surfaces.
Our original woven cable isn’t going anywhere. We love the look and feel of it, and for a lot of people it’s still a great cable. BattleFlex is for people who want more flexibility, more reach, and something better suited for being on the go.
Built Different
When we released HARDWIRE, we promised it would be an evolving product. We’ve already done a lot of that through HARDWIRE-OS, including our recent full tuning recalibration and expanded gesture controls. Now we have another update for you.
We love our woven cable and think it looks great, but as more and more people experienced HARDWIRE, some wrote to our Discord feedback channel that they wanted something more flexible for sports, gaming, and general life. We also heard from people who wanted a little more length or were getting cable noise from the woven material rubbing against their clothes when exercising.
So we built another cable.
Drivers, Audio Cortex, tuning, Holographic Sound, all untouched. Only the cable changed.
14cm Longer
BattleFlex is 14cm longer than our woven cable. This was about as far as we could push it without the cable starting to feel unwieldy.
The extra length gives you more room to run HARDWIRE through your clothes, into a pocket or bag, or to a handheld. It primarily helps at a desk where your USB-C port might be a little further away.
It’s a small change but in actual use, 14cm will make a pretty big difference.
Ballistic Nylon Construction
BattleFlex is softer and more flexible than our woven cable, using ballistic nylon to reinforce the cabling, with a durable PVC outer jacket.
Getting the material right took us some time. We wanted the flexibility of a more traditional cable without ending up with something that degrades or develops that sticky feeling you sometimes get from softer consumer cables. The internal cabling is made of a unique silver-coated copper stranding, which reduces cable memory, making things more tangle-free.
There was also an unexpected benefit from changing the construction. The Audio Cortex now consistently faces outward when you’re wearing HARDWIRE. You can actually see the display and your chosen color, and the ENC-adaptive mic is less likely to be obstructed.
Reduced Microphonics
The material change also significantly reduces cable microphonics. If you’ve ever heard a thump or scratching sound in your earbuds when the cable rubs against your shirt during an activity, that’s what we’re talking about.
This came up particularly with people wearing collared shirts. The woven cable could rub against the collar and transfer some of that sound into the earbuds. BattleFlex is much quieter when it comes into contact with clothing or other surfaces.
For people using HARDWIRE at a desk, the difference is nice. For people wearing HARDWIRE to exercise, it matters a lot more.
A Few Other Changes
We’ve also swapped the default sport hooks from 26mm to 18mm. This came directly from helping HARDWIRE owners with fit and realizing the original default hooks were simply too large for a lot of ears right out of the box.
There’s also a new packaging and unboxing experience coming with BattleFlex.
Other than that, it’s the same HARDWIRE you know and love.
